New Delhi: Sources have told NDTV that a three-member team, led by an Additional Secretary in the Home Ministry, will visit West Bengal on Monday to assess the law and order situation in the state.

The team will meet state government officials and also visit some districts.

The decision comes after Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee met Home Minister P Chidambaram and Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee last week.

Meanwhile in Kolkata, the CPM began its two-day state committee meeting on Sunday, the first such meeting after the party suffered a defeat in the recent Assembly by-polls.

Chief Minister Buddhadeb skipped the morning session as he was unwell but attended the meeting later on.
