Centre Approves Rs 622.76 Crore Drought Assistance For UP

Uttar Pradesh, which is affected by drought, will head to assembly elections in early 2017

New Delhi: Poll-bound Uttar Pradesh was today awarded Rs 622.76 crore as central assistance for drought along with Rajasthan and Manipur, which too faced natural calamities.

A high-level committee, headed by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, approved a total of Rs 716.59 crore central assistance to UP, Rajasthan and Manipur affected by drought, hailstorm and earthquake, respectively, early this year.

The committee examined the proposals based on the report of the central team which visited the three states and approved support of Rs 622.76 crore for UP, Rs 79.18 crore for Rajasthan and Rs 14.65 crore for Manipur.

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh, Union Home Secretary Rajiv Mehrishi and senior officers of the Ministries of Home, Finance and Agriculture attended the meeting.

Assembly election in UP is due in early 2017.
