New Delhi:
Senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley today slammed the government over the national auditor's coal report. Here are the highlights of what he said:
UPA government is increasingly accused of windfall gains of private parties and losses to the government.
This loss has been highlighted by bodies like CAG.
There has been a debate on this issue across all regions and parties.
The govt strategy is clear that they want to mislead the people.
Their strategy is simple. They believe if you repeat a lie you will convince people. However, propaganda can never substitute truth.
The allegations of corruption against the UPA govt have two dimensions- private individuals gain and the losses of the government.
There is a debate over all this across the country , but not in Parliament.
Letting the government function and the Parliament function is not our strategy.
When the 2G scam happened, Mr Sibal propounded the zero loss theory .Now he has to eat his words
Yesterday, Mr Chidambaram also did not learn any lessons from Mr Sibal. He just tried to take the argument further.
The CAG figures on 2G losses were based on the market. Mr Chidambarams logic is preposterous to say the least.
Don't think Mr Chidambaram will succeed in misleading the people, except that he has tried to mislead himself.
Huge opportunity cost to the govt of India. The blocks the govt could have mines on is now on the hands of private players.
When there is such a major battle on the issue of corruption, all parties will have to take a call on what they want to do.
Speaking about the latest issue of Twitter block, Mr Jaitley said, "We must learn to live with new media , blocking it will not be of any help .
On IAC Gherao: As far as the BJP is concerned, the party has been raising a voice for Lokpal. Now that IAC has decided to form a political party, they are free to do what they want. They are now pursuing a journey from idealism to adventurism and that may not be ideal.
The fact that Prime Minister will speak is not relevant. I will be eager to hear what the Prime Minister has to say if he chooses to address the nation directly on coal block allocation.
The Congress's repeated attacks on the CAG have totally lost credibility
The Centre's attack on BJP is at best a diversionary tactic .
