New Delhi:
Shouting slogans, squatting on the floor, trooping to the well of the house, and damaging the Chairperson's mike - this was how some of our MPs thought fit to protest against the government today. The DMK and AIADMK MPs were protesting against the government for "not making efforts" for a stronger resolution against Sri Lanka at the UNHRC yesterday.
In the morning, as Chairman Hamid Ansari walked in, AIADMK Members, led by their leader V Maitreyan, rushed to the well and knelt down holding posters of slain LTTE chief Prabhakaran's son, allegedly killed in custody by the Sri Lankan Army. They continued holding up posters and disrupting the house even as the Chairman tried to get some business done. The house was adjourned shortly after noon.
When the Rajya Sabha reconvened at 2.30 pm, Congress MP Renuka Choudhary was presiding over proceedings in the upper house. DMK MPs continued shouting slogans and disrupted Foreign Minister Salman Khurshid from making a statement. They also interrupted other members of the house from speaking. When Ms Choudhary objected to the disruptions and called for order in the house, some MPs rushed to the dais the damaged the Chairperson's mike. The house was adjourned for the day and will next meet on April 22.
