Mumbai:
The Maharashtra government says multiplexes have not informed it of any new threats by the Shiv Sena regarding Shah Rukh Khan's film, My Name is Khan. When informed that multiplexes are considering not releasing the film, Chief Minister Ashok Chavan said to NDTV, "If they show some boldness, I have already assured we will provide security."
My Name is Khan is scheduled for release on Friday.
Earlier this week, the film's director, Karan Johar, met the city's Police Commissioner along with the multiplex owners. The police assured cinema owners that they would be heavily guarded against attacks by the Sena.
Chavan said in Mumbai on Thursday, "I am not here to promote this film...let's be clear about that. But law and order has to be maintained. It's sad that the police has to be used for this, rather than to fight Naxals or terrorists."
