Chennai:
A 47-year-old patient, who left a Chennai hospital after being tested for swine flu, died on Thursday night.
The patient was admitted with a mild respiratory problem on August 14. He was put on Tamiflu immediately. But he absconded from the hospital before the doctors received the results for his swine flu test.
He was tracked down on Wednesday, and re-admitted to hospital. But by then, he had contracted pneumonia.
"Because he absconded, it became an acute respiratory disorder and he died of pneumonia", said Dr J Mohanasundaram, Dean of the Government General Hospital, where the patient was being treated.
Chennai witnessed its first swine flu death on August 10. A four-year-old boy died after his kidneys and liver failed.
