Raipur: Appealing to people to wear helmets while riding two-wheelers, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh led 'a helmet rally' in Raipur, riding a scooter.

"People should wear helmets to ensure safety while riding on roads," Mr Singh said, talking to reporters on Friday.

Every person's life is precious and hence one should always wear a helmet while riding two-wheelers, the Chief Minister said.

The rally started from Mr Singh's official residence and passed through Shankar Nagar chowk, Gandhi Udyan chowk, Nagar Ghadi chowk and Shastri chowk before ending where it had started after covering a distance of about 24 km.

Mr Singh, who rode a scooter, said it reminded him of his college days, and he reminisced about the time he used to ride a two-wheeler during 1990 and 1993 when he was an MLA.

"I feel really sad to see the youngsters riding on roads without helmet, and often facing the painful consequences of the injuries caused in accidents," he said.

About 90 per cent of the deaths in road accidents can be prevented if people wear helmets, the Chief Minister noted.
