Chhattisgarh Government Issues Circular Seeking Action On Noise Pollution

Raipur: In a bid to control noise levels in Chhattisgarh, the state government has issued necessary directives to prevent sound pollution on roads and other public places.

The Housing and Environment department in a circular to all district collectors has asked to take steps to curb noise pollution, Principal Secretary, housing and environment Aman Kumar Singh said today.

Collectors were instructed to establish a complaint cell with regard to registering complaints against the sound pollution, where a senior officer should be appointed to acknowledge complaints and take further action accordingly, Mr Singh said.

Besides, collectors should also call upon the police and home guards to monitor and patrol those areas where constant violation of norms related to sound pollution are being reported.

At the same time collectors should conduct awareness drive among the masses in this concern, he said.

In the circular, the department has also cautioned against the usage of high-decibel sound producing instruments in densely populated areas which is having a detrimental effects on the general health of the society.

The loud speakers should be allowed on the written permission of the competent authority only, it said.

Moreover, high-decibel sound producing systems should not be allowed between 10 pm to 6: 00 am anywhere.

Even the instruments should not produce sound more than the prescribed decibel limits.

Horns should not be used in the nights in the residential areas and silent places, the circular added.
