Gurgaon: Doctors treating Vidya Charan Shukla, who received bullet injuries in a Maoist attack in Chhattisgarh, on Monday, said the veteran Congress leader is still in a very serious condition.

"V C Shukla continues to be serious and still not out of danger," said a spokesperson of city-based Medanta Hospital, where the former Madhya Pradesh chief minister is undergoing treatment.

Though Mr Shukla had shown marginal improvement a week back, his condition again deteriorated following an infection and he still remains critical, he said.

The 84-year-old former union minister had sustained three bullet wounds after he was caught in the middle of an ambush by Maoists on a Congress convoy in Chhattisgarh's Bastar district on May 25.

Prior to being moved to Gurgaon, Mr Shukla underwent an operation at a Jagdalpur hospital for removal of the bullets.
