Korba, Chattisgarh: The judicial probe into the Chhattisgarh plant mishap that left 41 labourers dead is yet to begin.
A 100-metre under-construction chimney at the Bharat Aluminium Company Ltd (Balco) plant in Chhattisgarh's Korba town plant collapsed last month, resulting in the death of the migrant labourers.
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh had ordered a judicial inquiry into the incident.
But no judge has been appointed so far.
A case of culpable homicide was filed against three parties. Balco had outsourced the 814 crore project to a Chinese firm SEPCO, which in turn had outsourced it to the Delhi-based GDCL firm. So far, only one GDCL project manager has been arrested.
There seems to be lack of concern and general apathy towards the victims on the part of the government.
"What are the aspects that have to be investigated? Who will be the judge? The entire process will take time. We are also consulting the High Court," says Ashok Agarwal, collector, Korba.
The workers allege the delay in probe is deliberate and want a CBI inquiry.
"We want an independent CBI inquiry," says Rajendre Mishra, the working president of the Bhartiye Mazdoor Sangh, Balco.
