Chidambaram upset with huge convoy at Assam relief camps
Kokrajhar: A bureaucrat of the Assam government had to face the ire of Union Home Minister P Chidambaram over the large number of vehicles in his motorcade during his visit here to relief camps for ethnic violence-hit victims.

As soon as he arrived in Kokrajhar, Chidambaram was surprised to see 36 cars and jeeps in his convoy prompting him to direct the Deputy Commissioner of the district to send back the maximum number of the vehicles.

"I don't need all these cars," the Home Minister said angrily.

An official in the entourage said that majority of the cars belonged to staff and security of two state ministers, two Parliamentarians and Union DONER minister Paban Singh Ghatowar who were accompanying Chidambaram.

The Home Minister refuses to take any security in the national capital and is accompanied by a Personal Security Officer only.

Delhi Police suo moto keeps a pilot vehicle ahead of his official car after he was caught in a traffic jam nearly two years back.
