Mumbai:
In yet another distressing case in Mumbai, a three-year-old child fell into a gutter while playing on Sunday night. The boy, Ayub, fell into the manhole around 8:30 to 8:45 p.m. Rescue operations are still on 15 hours later.
To add to the family's woes, Ayub's maternal grandfather, stressed about the child's welfare, passed away on Monday morning. Ayub's grandmother has been admitted to hospital.
Local residents are livid and say the gutter had been open for the last five months or so and the civic authorities did nothing despite many complaints. Efforts are on by firemen to rescue the boy.
"He was running and fell into the gutter. The police and firemen aren't doing anything. My child is gone. It's been 4-5 months since this gutter has been like this. A drunk and a thief have fallen into it earlier they saved both of them but no one is helping my child," said Ayub's mother.
