One hundred forty seven of the 293 MLAs in the Andhra Pradesh assembly this time are first-time legislators. But on day one, the MLA who stole the limelight was, predictably, megastar Chiranjeevi.
From adulation and applause on the silver screen for decades to the real political stage. Wednesday saw Chiranjeevi entering the Andhra Pradesh assembly as a first-time MLA. And the actor of 150 films was clearly overwhelmed by the grandeur of the moment.
"In films, we have chance to go for two or three takes. But here only one take. Every moment what we say, every step we take, we have to be conscious. We have a responsibility,'' he says.
Chiranjeevi had hoped to be the king or at least play kingmaker in Andhra Pradesh but his Praja Rajyam won only 18 seats in the assembly. Even if he is not the lead protagonist on the political stage, over the next five years, Chiranjeevi hopes to wow voters with his performance as an MLA.
The reactions to Chiranjeevi's first day first show was like any of his blockbusters. But more than the euphoria of the opening day, the megastar would hope to make his political innings into a golden or even a platinum jubilee hit.
