Srinagar:
A government employee died allegedly in firing by security forces after troops launched a counter-terror operation in South Kashmir's Kulgam district last evening.
Assadullah Kumar, who worked in Jammu and Kashmir's Fisheries Department was on duty when troops allegedly fired at him while chasing two suspected terrorists hiding in a house. Police say Kumar was killed in cross firing between army and the terrorists.
This is the second civilian death in south Kashmir in 24 hours.
On Thursday, a Congress worker and a sarpanch was killed in a controversial encounter by security forces in Anantnag. The Congress claims it was a staged encounter and has demanded a judicial probe.
The army, however, said that troops have killed a terrorist at Dooru in Anantnag district.
