A procession in West Bengal's Birhum district on Tuesday led to violent clashes after the marchers observing Prophet Mohammed's birth anniversary were not allowed not pass through in Mallarpur area. Three people were injured.
The police had not given the permission for a procession in the area after locals had objected.
Trouble began at around 11 am when the procession despite the warning moved towards the 'Sen Para' area and insisted on passing through. Some also hurled stones at the policemen.
The police then resorted to rubber bullets to disperse the mob in which a teenager was injured. The aggravated mob in turn pelted stones injuring two policemen.
The mob also blocked the road and damaged vehicles. 10 people have been detained, Mallapur police said.
The injured teenager and the policemen were hospitalised and their condition was stable.
It tool at least 4-5 hours for the police to bring the situation under control large police which also disrupted traffic.
