Classes To Resume At NIT Srinagar On Monday After Clashes
An altercation between local and non-local students had led to sloganeering at the campus yesterday
Srinagar: Classes at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) in Srinagar, which was shut down yesterday following clashes between two groups of students, will resume from Monday.

"The issue has been resolved and the earlier order to suspend work has been revoked," an official of the NIT said. He said the class work will resume from Monday.

The NIT authorities had yesterday ordered shutdown of the campus till further orders after clashes between local and non-local students over the defeat of Indian cricket team against the West Indies in Thursday's semi-final clash in the on-going World T20 Cup.

In Delhi, the Education ministry said normalcy has been restored at the NIT Srinagar.

A statement issued by the ministry said NIT Director Rajat Gupta had reassured the students, faculty and parents that the temporary situation arising out of tensions from disappointment at the outcome of the cricket match March 31 had been overcome.

The Director, NIT Srinagar, assured the parents, students and all concerned that there is no cause for apprehension and students are safe and secure, said the statement.
