Ahmedabad: The Indian Coast Guard today arrested 14 Pakistani crew members of a fishing trawler after it ventured into Indian waters off Okha post in Gujarat.
According to the statement released by the Coast Guard, its front line ship Meera Behn apprehended a Pakistani fishing boat about 34 nautical mile west of Mithaport, into Indian waters.
According to the statement, on seeing the Indian Coast Guard ship, the fishing boat removed its nets and attempted to flee away but the coast guards challenged the boat and had to fire five warning shots in the air to stop it. After pursuing it for a distance of six nautical miles, the boat was intercepted.
Subsequently, the Coast Guard boarding party carried out an investigation and arrested 14 crew members including the master, all of Pakistan nationality, for violating the Maritime Zones of India Act 1981, the release said.
