The Coast Guard briefed the media of measures taken to recover the IAF's AN-32 aircraft.
The Coast Guard is detailing measures taken to locate the Indian Air Force's AN-32 aircraft with 9 people in board that went missing on Friday over the Bay of Bengal after taking of from Chennai. Here are the highlights of the briefing:
- This is the 4th day of search ops, jointly being conducted by Navy, IAF and Coast Guard
- All the merchant vessels passing through are alerted of the crashed aircraft.
- Once the search was done close to the Deccan position; we couldn't find any traces of debris. The search area was thus expanded.
- Search area on surface constitutes 14,400 sq nautical miles, whereas 16,000 sq nautical miles are covered through aerial search.
- At sea, we have 13 Naval vessels, 2 Coast Guard ships; there have been about 12 air sorties.
- As of now, we have not been able to locate any debris or any possible survivors.
- Though we have managed to find other debris, articles which do not belong to the crashed aircraft.
- We are doing our best; we'll let you know if any new information comes to light.
