CoBRA Jawan Killed In Encounter With Maoists In Jharkhand's Giridih

The encounter started in the morning with more than 150 bullets being traded between the security forces and the Left Wing Extremists.

Giridih, Jharkhand: A jawan of the CoBRA battalion was today killed during a gun battle with the Maoists in Patharchhapra jungles in Giridih district, Inspector General of Police (CRPF) Sanjay Anand Lathkar said.

The encounter started in the morning with more than 150 bullets being traded between the security forces and the Left Wing Extremists, Deputy Inspector General of Police Upendra Kumar said.

The DIG, who is camping at the spot, said several Maoists also received bullet injuries during the gun fight and a combing operation was on.

Tearful farewell was given to the jawan, Balan Harijan, who belonged to Assam. His body would be sent to home from Dhanbad, the DIG said.

Operation Hill Vijay would continue till the Maoists are wiped out from Parasnath Hills, Mr Kumar added.
