Bhopal: Intense cold conditions prevailed in Madhya Pradesh even as light showers hit southern parts of the state including the capital where two persons lost their lives within 24 hours allegedly due to the chill.
Golu, 18, a labourer living on the pavements was found dead near Alpana Talkies on Wednesday, police said. His post mortem report is awaited and it is suspected that he died of cold.
Similarly, a person identified as Chunni Lal was found dead in Shivaji Nagar slums on Wednesday and severe cold might be the cause behind his death, they said.
Most parts of Southern Madhya Pradesh were under the grip of cold due to rains in many places including Rewa, Datia and Bhopal. Rewa and Datia were the coldest in the state on Wednesday with a minimum temperature of three degree Celsius, Met sources said.
Meanwhile, Bhopal recorded a minimum temperature of 8.8 degree Celsius during the night and maximum temperature recorded at 21.6 degree Celsius.
Met sources at Bhopal said the wind direction in the state has changed from Northerly to Easterly and South-Easterly and the change in direction may lead to a minor increase in night temperature for at least next two days.
At Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior and Jabalpur the minimum and the maximum temperature were recorded between 4.9 and 21.7 degree Celsius respectively.
