Kolkata:
The hill town of Darjeeling recorded a temperature of minus 1 degree Celsius, the coldest in West Bengal on Tuesday, as the metropolis experienced 9.9 degree Celsius - the lowest in seven years.
The Regional Meteorological Centre Director G C Debnath said that Darjeeling recorded minus 1 degree Celsius, while the temperature in Kolkata was at 9.9 degree Celsius, which was likely to decline to 9 degree Celsius on Wednesday.
On January 6, 2004, Kolkata had recorded 9.4 degrees Celsius, he said.
A cold wave warning was also issued for 10 south Bengal districts in the next 48 hours.
The temperature in East and West Midnapore, Bankura, Burdwan, Birbhum, Purulia, Nadia and Murshidabad districts was hovering between four to six degrees Celsius for the last few days.
Debnath attributed the cold wave to incursion of chilly northerly winds from central and northern states and Jharkhand.
