Comedian Bharti Singh and husband Haarsh Limbachiyaa accepted using marijuana, NCB said.
Mumbai: Comedian Bharti Singh's husband Haarsh Limbachiyaa was arrested on Sunday morning over allegations of possession and use of marijuana. The 33-year-old screenwriter, producer and TV personality was taken into custody after being questioned by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) for 15 hours. His wife, Bharti Singh, was arrested on Saturday.
They have both been sent to judicial custody till December 4, the special public prosecutor said.
Bharti Singh and Haarsh Limbachiyaa's home in Mumbai was searched on Saturday by the anti-drugs bureau.
Officials said a "small quantity of cannabis" (86.5 grams) was found from their home in an apartment complex in Andheri. They were then taken to the agency's Mumbai office for questioning.
According to the NCB, during questioning, Ms Bharti and Mr Limbachiyaa accepted that they use narcotic substances.
"Both Bharti Singh and her husband Haarsh Limbachiyaa accepted consuming ganja. Ms Singh was placed under arrest under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act 1986," the NCB release read.
The quantity of drugs found at the couple's home was not commercial but could still invite up to 10 years in jail, according to officials.
The NCB has been probing alleged drug use in Bollywood and the entertainment industry after the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput in June on the basis of WhatsApp chats involving drugs.
According to an NCB official, Ms Singh's name emerged during questioning of a drug peddler. On Saturday, the agency also carried out searches at two other locations in Mumbai, the official added.
Over the last few months top Bollywood actors Deepika Padukone, Sara Ali Khan, Rakulpreet Singh and Shraddha Kapoor have all been questioned by the NCB as part of its attempt to unravel the network of drug supply to celebrities.
Earlier this month actor Arjun Rampal's home was searched, and both he and his girlfriend, Gabriella Demetriades, were summoned for questioning.
Ms Demetriades's brother, Agisialos Demetriades, a South African national was also questioned and is currently in the agency's custody.
Before that, the NCB had summoned film producer Firoz Nadiadwala. A day earlier his wife, Shabana Saeed, was arrested after investigators allegedly found 10 grams of marijuana at their Juhu home during a raid. Ms Saeed has since been released on bail.
In September, the central agency had arrested Mr Rajput's girlfriend, actor Rhea Chakraborty, for allegedly procuring drugs for him. Her brother Showik, some employees of the late film star and a few others were also arrested under various sections of the NDPS Act, based on the recovery of a small quantity of marijuana.
Rhea Chakraborty and some other accused are currently out on bail.
