Commission of Railway Safety to Submit Report on Uttar Pradesh Train Accident in 15-Day

Rae Bareli:

The Chief Commissioner of Railway Safety today visited the spot of Rae Bareli train accident, and said a report in this regard will be submitted in 15 days.

Chief Commissioner Railway Safety DK Singh, in a brief conversation with reporters after inspecting the spot, said it was "inappropriate" to comment on the cause of tragedy now.

"Give us 15 days time. We will submit the report within 15 days," Mr Singh said. He was accompanied by senior railway officials.

Over 30 people were killed and  around 150 others injured when engine and two adjoining coaches of Dehradun-Varanasi Janata Express derailed near Bachrawan Railway Station on March 20.

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Minister of State for Railway Manoj Sinha had visited the trauma center at King George's Medical University (KGMU) in Lucknow and met the injured.

Congress President Sonia Gandhi had also met the victims and expressed deep sympathies with them.

She said the Railways should expedite all assistance to the next of kin of the deceased. "We have deep sympathies for those who have lost their close relatives. I pray for the fast recovery of the injured. I expect the Railway Ministry will provide adequate assistance to the victims at the earliest," she told reporters after meeting the victims.

She appreciated the efforts of the doctors for promptly attending to the needy.

Universal Public Procurement Certification Council  (UPPCC) chief Nirmal Khatri and former state unit chief and MLA Rita Joshi accompanied Gandhi.

Ms Joshi said majority of those killed or injured in the accident were from Rae Bareli or Amethi -- the Lok Sabha constituencies of Sonia and her son Rahul.
