Commonwealth Games construction work an organised loot: Lalu

New Delhi: Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) on Friday demanded a high-level probe into the alleged irregularities in Commonwealth Games-related works being carried put by various government departments in the national capital.

"Bhari ghapla, bhari loot (massive bungling, massive loot). This is an organised loot," RJD chief Lalu Prasad told reporters here.

He was replying to queries on reports of Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) finding discrepancies in Games-related works.

Prasad demanded a "proper probe" into the issue and wanted the guilty to be put behind bars.

"There is infighting going on among organisers. There should be proper probe and the guilty should be put behind bars," he said.

Lok Janshakti Party chief Ram Vilas Paswan also demanded a high-level probe into the allegations of irregularities in the Games-related works.

The CVC has found serious discrepancies like award of works at higher rates to bidders, poor quality of construction and grant of work to ineligible agencies in different Games-related construction works being carried out by various departments.

According to an assessment report prepared by CVC's Chief Technical Examination Wing, large-scale procedural violations, including corruption, have been noticed in 14 projects. Five of them are being done by PWD, two each by MCD, CPWD, DDA and NDMC and one by RITES, a Government of India Enterprise.
