Computerisation of police stations to be completed in three years

Udhagamandalam (Tamil Nadu): The process of computerisation of all the 16,000 police stations in the country, at a cost of Rs 2,000 crore, would be completed in another three years, a top official of the Department of National Crime Documentation, Delhi, said on Friday.

The department has already completed the task in 16 states and work in 11 other states was in progress and would be completed by the end of this year, Sabhi Halan, Director, NCD, told reporters in Udhagamandalam.

Stating that Tamil Nadu has been allotted Rs103 crore for this purpose, Mr Halan, who was here to launch the scheme, said all the police stations in Thiruvallur district of the state have been computerised.

Once all the stations in the country come under the network of computerisation, it will be interlinked, and also with Interpol. This would help detect and trace international and inter-state criminals and also solve cases easily, Mr Halan said.
