Congress leader Shobha Oza slammed Arvind Kejriwal for 'double standards' over women's safety.
New Delhi:
The Congress on Friday attacked Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal saying that protests against him in Delhi and Ludhiana were an expression of public anger against his double standards on women safety.
On Thursday, angry crowds jostled with Mr Kejriwal first when he boarded the train to Ludhiana from Delhi, and then when he arrived in Ludhiana.
"On one hand Kejriwal talks about installing CCTVs and preventing women harassment in Delhi, but his own legislators and ministers are exploiting women. Meanwhile Mr Kejriwal is a mute observer," senior Congress leader Shobha Oza said.
"Protests will continue wherever he will go. Women will show him black flags wherever he goes, because what he says and what he does are poles apart," she added.
Ms Oza also said that the Congress party welcomed the special court's decision to award death sentence to Ankur Panwar, who had killed Mumbai nurse Preeti Rathi by throwing acid on her.
"We welcome the decision because it sends a strong message to people who torture women like this, rape them. They shouldn't be punished with anything less than death," Ms Oza said.
The Congress leader also blamed both the Delhi government and the centre for increase in crimes against women.
"Women harassment is continuously increasing in Delhi. Both Prime Minister Modi and Chief Minister Kejriwal made a lot of noise after Nirbhaya rape, but why are they silent now? Women are being tortured, harassed, and raped," Ms Oza said.
Mr Kejriwal was heckled by activists of the BJP, Akali Dal and Congress yesterday who organized protests at the railway station in Ludhiana over allegations of rape against AAP's former minister Sandeep Kumar.
