Srinagar: The Congress today asked its minister in Jammu and Kashmir, Shabir Ahmad Khan, to resign following allegations of sexual assault by a doctor.
The party has asked Health Minister Mr Khan to resign till the inquiry in the case is over. Mr Khan is a Congress legislator from Rajouri.
Yesterday, the FIR in the case was filed on the complaints of a lady doctor who alleged the minister assaulted her at the Srinagar Secretariat.
The minister has been summoned by the police and may be arrested today.
The doctor alleges in her complaint that she received repeated calls from Mr Khan's staff over a week ago. She was told that the minister wanted to know about the announcements made by Union minister Ghulam Nabi Azad during his visit to the hospital where she works.
The woman alleged that despite her requests that the minister should obtain the information from senior officials, she was compelled to report at the minister's office on January 28.
The woman said when she reached Mr Khan's office at the Secretariat, he acted like a "sexual predator" and made provocative advances - both verbal and physical. He also offered her many favours despite her resentment, the doctor alleged.
