Congress boycotts Assembly proceedings in Chhattisgarh

Raipur, Chhattisgarh:
Main Opposition Congress on Thursday claimed that their legislators were being humiliated in the state and boycotted proceedings of the Chhattisgarh Assembly demanding action against those responsible.

During the Question Hour, senior Congress leader Nandkumar Patel said that by not informing him about the postponement of an agriculture conference held in his constituency, state officials had humiliated a public representative.

He also demanded action against the state officials responsible for it. On his demand, state Agriculture Minister Chandrashekhar Sahu proposed to have an inquiry into the issue. However, a disappointed Patel left the House only to be coaxed to return by party leader Mohammed Akbar.

After his return, Congress MLAs continued to rake up the issue forcing Speaker Dharamlal Kaushik to adjourn the House twice for five and 10 minutes respectively.

When the House reassembled, the Speaker said the government has been asked to be  careful about recurrence of such incident in the future and assured of an inquiry into the matter.

However, Leader of Opposition Ravindra Choubey said that there was no need for an inquiry as it was clear that the concerned officials were guilty and government should take action against them.

If the government is not able to do anything when members of the House are humiliated, then  there is no need to sit in the House. Hence we are boycotting the proceedings for the day, he said and left the House along with other party legislators.
