Congress today debunked suggestions from the Samajwadi Party projecting Mulayam Singh Yadav as the Prime Minister and Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi as his Deputy after the next polls, saying no alliance is being planned with that party.
"As of now, Indian National Congress has no intention of tying up or having any understandaing with the Samajwadi party so the subsequent question does not arise," party spokesperson Sushmita Dev told reporters.
She was asked about Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav's suggestion that an alliance with Congress is possible in an arrangement where Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav is the Prime Minister and Rahul Gandhi his Deputy.
During a session at Hindustan Times Leadership Summit moderated by NDTV's Barkha Dutt,
Akhilesh Yadav was responding to a question on whether his Samajwadi Party would be open to an alliance with the Congress for the next national election.
Rahul Gandhi in the audience shifted in his seat and refused to comment.
