Congress has put up a candidate to take on Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) chief Ram Vilas Paswan from Hajipur in Bihar.
The development has come days after the state party joined hands with Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) supremo Lalu Prasad and Samajwadi Party (SP) president Mulayam Singh Yadav to form an alliance to contest the Lok Sabha polls in UP and Bihar.
Dasai Choudhary will contest as the Congress nominee against Paswan, according to a list of candidates released by the party. Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, together, account for 120 seats in the Lok Sabha.
The party has fielded Vineeta Vijaya from Muzaffarpur, from where estranged JD(U) leader George Fernandes is contesting as an independent. He was denied a JD(U) ticket on health grounds. It has decided to replace Madhurender Singh with Lovely Anand from Sheohar in Bihar.
For the polls in Gujarat, the Congress has given ticket to Shailesh Parmar from Ahmedabad West, while Kuwarjibhai Bavalia will be in the fray from Rajkot.
In Madhya Pradesh, the party's Central Election Committee has fielded Sudhir Singh Tomar from Satna.
The party also cleared the candidature of Chandra Sekhar Tripathi and Debendranath Mansingh from Dhenkanal and Puri in Orissa respectively.
