Bihar Governor Ram Nath Kovind today administered oath to veteran Congress legislator Sadanand Singh as protem speaker of the newly-constituted 16th state Legislative Assembly.
Mr Kovind administered oath to Mr Singh, a ninth-term lawmaker, as protem speaker at a function at the Raj Bhawan.
The 72 year-old pro-tem speaker will administer oath to all newly-elected members of the House which convenes on Monday for its inaugural session.
The Congress MLA from Kahalgaon constituency in Bhagalpur district said his duties as pro-tem speaker will get over after oath by the members and election of the Speaker on December 2. He will then resume duties as the Congress legislature party leader in the state Assembly.
Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi had announced that Singh will be Congress legislature party leader on November 20 when he was in Patna to attend swearing-in ceremony of the Nitish Kumar government.
