Shimla:
Ahead of the Himachal Pradesh assembly elections, former Union minister and Congress leader Virbhadra Singh has resigned from all key party posts. He sent his resignation to Congress president Sonia Gandhi yesterday, but it has not yet been accepted.
Mr Singh is apparently upset as he was not consulted before naming Sheila Dikshit as head of the screening committee for candidates. He is not attending a Himachal congress meet in Shimla today.
The veteran leader skipped the meeting of the Congress committee for Himachal Pradesh on Thursday, which discussed the strategy for upcoming assembly election.
Earlier, on June 26, Mr Singh had quit as the Union Minister for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises after a Himachal Pradesh court had framed charges of corruption against him and his wife Pratibha Singh.
