Amethi:
Mahendra Pratap Singh, the son of Congress leader Jang Bahadur Singh, was on Saturday night shot dead by unidentified men near Raniganj market in Uttar Pradesh's Amethi district, police said.
Mr Singh, 41, was shot while he was on his way home in Fatte ka Purwa area in his car, said Amethi Superintendent of Police (SP) Hira Lal.
Mahendra's close aide Suresh Kumar was also killed in the shooting while the driver of his car was injured, SP Lal said.
The driver has been rushed to the hospital, he said.
Police are trying to find the shooters, the SP added.
Jang Bahadur Singh is a former president of the Uttar Pradesh Rajya Bhandaran Nigam, a rank equivalent to that of a state minister.
Amethi is the constituency of Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi.
