A Congress legislator was manhandled by an agitating mob in Rajasthan's Tonk district after a farmer, who was employed in his farm, died in a clash with a group of people.
Kamal Bairwa, a Congress MLA from Niwai, was manhandled in Surajpura village where a group of people were protesting with the body of the farmer, police said today. The incident took place when Mr Bairwa had gone to the village to pacify the agitators.
According to police, Mr Bairwa had to rush to a building to take cover. He was later escorted to a safe place late last night by the police. He told reporters that he was manhandled by people who were demanding action against those behind the killing of the farmer.
Meanwhile, locals today blocked a road in the village in protest and demanded stern action against the culprits.
The victim, 35-year-old Ramjilal, used to work in Mr Bairwa's farm along with two others when Ramphool Bairwa and others allegedly attacked him with iron rods, sticks and sharp edged weapons few days back.
