The Congress Parliamentary Strategy Group met today to discuss the strategy for the Budget Session of the Parliament. The meet was held at Sonia Gandhi's residence.The second part of the budget session will resume on Monday and is scheduled to end on April 8.
The meet was attended by Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge, Anand Sharma, K Suresh and Jairam Ramesh.
Mr Kharge said that in the remainder of the Budget Session, Congress will raise the issues of Indian students who were stranded in Ukraine, inflation, labour issues and providing a minimum support price to farmers.
Later today, the Congress Working Committee will meet to discuss the outcome of the assembly elections. The party lost Punjab to the AAP and could not wrest any of the four other states - Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Goa and Manipur - from the BJP.
Despite a high-pitched campaign, led by Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, the Congress won only two seats in the 403-seat Uttar Pradesh assembly. The party's vote share fell to a meagre 2.33 per cent and over 97 per cent of its candidates lost their security deposits.
Rahul Gandhi had resigned as Congress president after the party suffered its second consecutive defeat in general elections in 2019. Sonia Gandhi who took over the reins of the party again as interim president had also offered to quit in August 2020 after an open revolt by a section of leaders, referred to as G-23, but the CWC had urged her to continue.
