New Delhi:
The Congress opened up another front in the corruption debate with the BJP, with party spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi demanding that the BJP sack former Union Minister and Karnataka leader Ananth Kumar.
With the crackdown on Kalmadi and Raja, UPA is taking moral high ground on corruption.
And ironically, this time it's the Radia tapes that's come to Congress' rescue.
After a former associate of Radia revealed that she had close links with Ananth Kumar, aviation minister in the NDA regime, the Congress shot off a series of questions.
"Radia opened a Swiss account into which money was paid on her behalf and of behalf of those ministers in the Civil Aviation sector who helped her get contracts and in turn made money. We want details of the money and were there more senior BJP leaders involved in it? Will BJP inform the parliament of the same?" questioned Congress spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi. The Congress is hoping the latest allegation will not only blunt the Opposition's campaign but also divide the Opposition, especially the Left.
"The BJP has advised Ananth Kumar to immediately take action against the maker of the allegation," said Arun Jaitley, BJP, Spokesperson
When asked how raids on Raja and his associates would affect Congress-DMK ties, Congress appeared more than confident.
"Congress and DMK are our allies and will work together," said Motilal Vohra, General Secretary, Congress.
So far, its been the Congress or the ruling alliance that's been under BJP attack on the issue. Now, its the turn of the Congress to try and embarrass the BJP.
