Ahmedabad:
It's a dream testimonial - a newspaper ad shows Narendra Modi's photograph and lavishes praises on him for being "a master organiser and astute election strategist." More astute than the Congress, apparently, which accidentally designed and paid for the ad.
The two-page pamphlet that was distributed with newspapers on Republic Day in some parts of Gujarat, mentions different chief ministers and their accomplishments. Mr Modi's are numerous, according to the copy. "He has been trying very hard to convert Gujarat into a vibrant state, he has established separate department for biotechnology, and he has also been able to raise the height of Narmada dam from 11.64 mts to 121.92 mts." The Congress - which has begun campaigning against Mr Modi ahead of the state elections likely at the end of the year, also brags about Mr Modi's Vibrant Gujarat summits, which have made international headlines for the A-list entrepreneurs that show up to pledge millions of dollars for industry in Gujarat.
Not surprisingly, the Congress' leaders in Gujarat were not available for comment today. As for the BJP, need it say anything at all?
