Pay up to be part of Congress, that's the message from the party's treasurer Moti Lal Vohra.
In a strong note he has made it clear that party members will not be eligible to contest elections if they do not pay up.
"There is a need for transparency. All are expected to help in fund raising for the party.", Moti Lal Vohra said.
Congress MP Keshav Rao, said, "There is a need for fear of a sword if we do not pay up."
All elected representatives in the Centre and the State, which means all MPs and MLAs have to pay one month's salary to the party.
All Pradesh Congress Committe or PCC members, which runs in thousands, have to pay Rs 300 each, every year. AICC delegates about 2000 of them have to pay Rs 600 a year.
Manmohan Singh's committee had made these recommendations to bring in transparency in the party's funding but most state unit members had stopped paying. The party hopes to rake in a few crores from membership fee.
