Congress To Hold Anti-Inflations Protest Outside Parliament on July 20

Congress leaders would assemble at Jantar Mantar before taking out a march to Parliament.

New Delhi: The Congress has planned to hold an anti-inflation protest outside Parliament on July 20.

The agitation would begin from Jantar Mantar, where top Congress leaders and heads of its units -- Mahila Congress, Sewa Dal, Indian Youth Congress and National Students Union of India -- would assemble before taking out a march to Parliament which will be in session.

"Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been in government for two years now. One of the promises he made during his election campaign was curbing inflation. But as we see today, the prices of essential commodities have been rising and people are finding it difficult to arrange two square meals a day," Mahila Congress chief Shobha Oza alleged.

"To protest the failure of the BJP government in addressing inflation, all four frontal organisations of the Congress will gherao Parliament and also hold a protest at Jantar Mantar," she told reporters.

Indian Youth Congress chief Amarinder Singh Raja Brar claimed that the Prime Minister, who was voted to power on the promise of fulfilling the aspirations of people, has "failed" to deliver. "The cost of fuel has been rising. The cost of food has been rising. We will protest this inflation, which is breaking the backs of people," he said.

Sewa Dal chief Mahender Joshi, NSUI vice president Mohit Sharma, along with AICC secretaries Suraj Hegde and Girish Chodankar were also present at the media briefing.
