The body of the Congress unit president of Mangrol town in Rajasthan's Baran district was found with injury marks to the head at his residence on Monday morning, police said.
Vinod Chopda (62) used to live alone and his body was found by his brother, Mangrol police station SHO Umesh Maheria said.
The victim's brother had gone to the house to give him tea and breakfast when he found the body, he added.
Some unidentified assailants are suspected to have broken into the house through the terrace and committed the crime on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday, Mr Maheria said, adding that the motive is yet be ascertained as no valuables were stolen.
A motorcycle has gone missing though, the SHO said.
"It is a case of blind murder," he added.
A case of murder was lodged against unidentified accused and an investigation launched, the SHO said.
The body was handed over to family members after an autopsy, he added.
The victim's wife did not live with him and his son is lodged in jail, police said.
