Congress: Why is Amit Shah still in hiding?

New Delhi: The Congress today launched a scathing attack on the BJP, and Gujarat's Narendra Modi government, and asked why Minitser of State for Home, Amit Shah, was still in hiding. (Watch: Amit Shah - The insider | Read: Who is Amit Shah?)

The party says Amit Shah's resignation as minister is "too little, too late." (Read: Gujarat minister Amit Shah resigns, Modi says Shah is not guilty)

Party spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi told reporters in New Delhi that the BJP is still showing no sign of remorse, and attacked senior Gujarat  Chief Minister Narendra Modi for defending Shah.

Earlier in the day, Modi said Shah was innocent. all evidences against him are just fabricated. " Everything is politically motivated. The whole country knows that during the 2007 elections, Congress had projected Sohrabuddin as a national hero and tried to cash in on him. However, they had to suffer a huge loss. This is a conspiracy against the Gujarat government." said the Gujarat Chief Minister. (Watch: Modi on Shah's resignation)

The Congress spokesperson, said the BJP was indulging in "verbal acrobatics" and "their true character (chaal, charitra aur chehra) has been exposed."

Defending the investigations, Home Minister P Chidambaram has questioned BJP's "belated and simulated response to the CBI. (Read: Chidambaram slams BJP for questioning CBI probe)

The issue has turned into a major political battle with the BJP's senior leaders in Delhi saying that the CBI is being misused by the Congress against its political opponents.
