Srinagar: A police constable was killed in an encounter between terrorists and security forces in north Kashmir's Bandipora district today, the police said.
Security forces cordoned off the Mir Mohalla village in Hajin area of the district this morning after receiving intelligence inputs about presence of terrorists hiding in the area, a police official said.
While the security forces were conducting searches, the terrorists opened fire on them, leading to a gun battle, the official said.
Jammu and Kashmir Police constable Zahir Abbas was killed in the gunbattle, the official said.
The encounter is still going on when reports last came in, the official said, adding further details are awaited.
