Kolkata:
On a day when Jyoti Basu's condition remained unchanged, a controversy has erupted over the choice of hospital for the veteran Communist. The widow of the late CPM leader Subhash Chakraborty accused the hospital of failing to give him proper medical treatment when he was admitted there before his death. The hospital has denied the charge. The hospital also took on the prime minister's offer and contacted specialists at AIIMs in Delhi today for advice on Basu's treatment.
This is the AMRI, a private hospital close to Jyoti Basu's home where he is now admitted. CPM leader Subhash Chakraborty had breathed his last at this very hospital in August and today his widow who came to visit Basu questioned the treatment given to her husband.
"They once got blood of the wrong group. Once they got his name wrong. The party was also not satisfied. Many party members are asking why Jyoti Basu has been brought here," said Romola Chakraborty.
The hospital immediately responded but no CPI-M leader would comment.
"We are sending the message to Mrs Romola Chakraborty to send her complaints in details. We would like to mention that even though we have provided the best possible services under the circumstances, we are open to get the complaints investigated," replied Dr Debashish Sharma, AMRI.
Meanwhile, Jyoti Basu's doctors took up the prime minister's offer and held a conference with a panel of specialists at AIIMS.
Dr DN Agarwal, AMRI said, "the specialist board of AIIMS conveyed their entire satisfaction of the line of management and wished speedy recovery of Sri Jyoti Basu."
Friday evening's medical bulletin said there was no significant improvement in Basu's condition in the last 12 hours.
