Nashik: An explosion at a market in Nashik this morning damaged five shops, the police said, adding a cooking gas cylinder may have triggered the blast. No casualties were reported. Police said the blast was unlikely to have been caused by an explosive device.
"There was an explosion at Tibetan market in Sharanpur around 5:30 am, which damage five shops. Nobody was injured in the incident," Nashik Police Commissioner Ravinder Kumar Singal said. "Due to the impact of the blast, some walls in the area were also damaged. It created panic among residents," he said.
The police are trying to find out the cause of the blast, and suspect a cooking gas or LPG cylinder could have burst.
The Tibetan market has several food stalls and kiosks of ready-made garments, especially those selling woollen clothes and sweaters. The area remains crowded throughout the day till late night.
After the blast, the area was cordoned off and the bomb squad was called. "They did not find any signs of explosives, but top police officials are investigating the case. It is suspected it could have been due to an LPG cylinder," Mr Singal said.
