Here are ten updates on coronavirus cases in India:
Kerala yet again saw the highest daily rise in Covid cases (5,848). Maharashtra with the country's highest overall cases saw 956 new patients.
In a sign of relief amid the county's fight against coronavirus, the active caseload stood at 1,34,096, which is the lowest in nearly 17 months.
Several states saw a single-day rise in double digits - Uttar Pradesh (12), Delhi (36), Chhatisgarh (32), Rajasthan (16), Gujarat (26), Madhya Pradesh (13, Punjab (17), among others.
The daily positivity rate stands at 1.12 per cent. It has been less than 2 per cent for the last 42 days. The weekly positivity rate stands at .99 per cent; it has been less than 2 per cent for the last 52 days.
The government is chasing the goal of fully vaccinating 108 crore adults by the end of this year. So far, 112.34 crore doses have been given, according to the official data.
Amid the fight against the pandemic, Delhi and several other states, including Haryana and Uttar Pradesh are also battling air pollution. This week, schools and government offices are closed in Delhi as the national capital continues to choke. In Haryana, several cities have taken similar measures.
Europe is yet again seeing a surge in the cases. According to the WHO, nearly 2 million Covid cases were logged last week, news agency AFP reported.
WHO Chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus made it clear last week that booster shots can't be the priority at this point of time. "It makes no sense to give boosters to healthy adults, or to vaccinate children, when health workers, older people and other high-risk groups around the world are still waiting for their first dose," he was quoted as saying by AFP.
Worldwide, over 25 crore cases have been logged since the start of the pandemic and 51 lakh deaths have been registered.
The United States continues to be at the top of the chart with over 4.7 crore overall cases followed by India (3.44 crore cases).
