The daily positivity rate - number of positive cases identified per 100 - stands at 1.86 per cent.
Kerala, the state with most number of daily cases, reported 17,983 cases and 127 Covid deaths - the most number of deaths in a day in any state.
Neighbouring Karnataka reported 789 new cases and 23 Covid deaths. The state government has announced that 100 per cent occupancy will be allowed in theatres and pubs in districts having less than 1 per cent positivity rate. Separate guidelines will be issued for Dasara festivities and a strict vigil would be kept in border areas, said Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai.
Maharashtra, which leads the states in overall cases, reported 3,286 cases and 52 Covid deaths in a day. All places of worship will reopen in the state from October 7, the first day of Navratri, the Chief Minister's Office tweeted last evening. All COVID-19 safety rules would be followed.
National capital Delhi reported 24 new cases and zero Covid deaths with the positivity rate dropping to 0.03 per cent. The seventh round of the serological prevelance survey that seeks to find presence of antibodies against COVID-19 began in Delhi on Friday, amid lower number of coronavirus cases being reported in the city for the past several weeks.
Rajasthan, Gujarat, Bihar - the three big states - reported zero Covid deaths. Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh reported one Covid death each.
The coastal state of Goa, a big draw among tourists, reported 84 new cases and two Covid deaths.
Mizoram with 1,322 Covid cases leads the northeastern states in most number of new cases in a day. The state also reported five Covid deaths. Assam reported 406 cases and seven Covid deaths.
Top medical body, Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), on Friday informed that even if the third wave comes in the country, its intensity will be low. The government has allowed door-to-door COVID-19 vaccination for people belonging to the differently-abled category and those with restricted mobility.
Ivermectin and Hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) drugs have been dropped from the revised clinical guidelines for the management of adult COVID-19 patients, said Indian Council of Medical Research. However, the new guidelines mention the use of Remdesivir and Tocilizumab in specific circumstances. Among the key guidelines which are routinely stressed include--wearing masks, physical distancing and hand hygiene.
