Coronavirus India: India is the second worst-hit country in the world after the US.
India recorded 42,625 fresh Covid cases, nearly 40% higher than yesterday's figures, even as the government warned that the pandemic is "still raging" in the country. 562 deaths in the last 24 hours pushed the death count to 4,25, 757.

- 23,676 people tested positive for the virus on Tuesday in Kerala, which has the highest single-day rise of cases in the country. The fresh cases pushed the tally of infections to over 34.49 lakh and 148 deaths took the death count to 17,103.
- Tamil Nadu logged 1,908 fresh COVID-19 cases, 2.6% lesser than the previous day. 29 patients died in the last 24 hours.
- In neighbouring Karnataka, 1,674 people tested positive on Tuesday. 38 patients died in the last 24 hours.
- Maharashtra, which has the highest number of coronavirus cases in India, recorded 6,005 new infections.
- After Maharashtra, Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh have the highest number of infections.
- While the active cases have gone up to over 4.10 lakh, they form only 1.29% of the total infections so far.
- Eight states have shown a rise in the R-factor, the government said on Tuesday, calling it a "significant problem". 44 districts have reported a high case positivity and the Delta-driven second wave is still not over, warned VK Paul, who heads the government's Covid task force. Eighteen districts showed an increasing trend in cases in the last four weeks, according to the government.
- While the daily positivity rate is 2.3 %, the recovery rate is 97.37%.
- Over 62.53 lakh vaccine doses were administered in the last 24 hours.
- In Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister's Yogi Adityanath's office said a record 26,03,631 people had been vaccinated against Covid on Tuesday. Citing CO-WIN data, it tweeted that the state had by now inoculated over 5.13 crore people overall. The most-populous state in the country recorded 62 Covid cases in the last 24 hours.
