60,975 Coronavirus Cases In India In 24 Hours; 31.67 Lakh Total Cases: 10 Points

Coronavirus: In the last 24 hours, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh recorded the highest number of new cases in India. These states also reported the highest number of deaths linked to Covid since yesterday.

Coronavirus: More than 58,000 deaths linked to Covid have been recorded so far.

A fresh surge of 60,975 new infections registered in the last 24 hours has taken India's coronavirus tally to 31,67,323, the Union Health Ministry said this morning. The number of fatalities linked to the outbreak rose to 58,390 after 848 deaths were recorded in the last 24 hours. A total of 66,550 patients recovered on Monday - the highest in a day - taking the total number of recoveries to 24,05,585. The recovery rate stood at 75.91 per cent this morning.

Here are top 10 developments on coronavirus cases in India:

  1. India has been reporting the highest number of daily Covid cases in the world since August 4, the World Health Organization data shows. The country has the third highest number of cases in the world after the United States - the epicentre of the pandemic - and Brazil.

  2. In the last 24 hours, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh recorded the highest number of new cases in India. These states also reported the highest number of deaths linked to Covid since yesterday.

  3. The five states have logged the highest number of cases since the beginning of the pandemic. Delhi, which was the second-worst hit by the outbreak in June, now has the sixth highest number of cases in the country.

  4. Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Monday tweeted he has coronavirus; he has been admitted to Gurgaon's Medanta Hospital. The state has logged about 55,460 cases so far.

  5. Several top political leaders in the last two months - Union Home Minister Amit Shah, former president Pranab Mukherjee, Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhwat, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Chouhan, among others - have tested positive for coronavirus.

  7. The phase 2 human clinical trial of the Oxford COVID-19 vaccine candidate in the country by Pune-based Serum Institute of India (SII) is set to begin today, news agency PTI reported.

  8. Karnataka has relaxed travel norms and travelers will no longer be required to be quarantined.

  9. The PM CARES Fund Trust will finance two 500-bed COVID-19 makeshift hospitals in Bihar, the Prime Minister's Office said on Monday, adding that this will go a long way in improving the COVID care in the state.

  10. Across the world, 2.36 crore cases have been logged so far; 8.12 lakh people have died amid the pandemic.

  11. The United States has about 57.39 lakh cases registered while Brazil has recorded 36.22 lakh cases so far, about five lakh more than India.
