Coronavirus: India is the country with the third-highest coronavirus caseload in the world.

New Delhi: India's coronavirus count crossed the 19-lakh mark as the cases rose to 19,08,254 after 52,509 people tested positive in the last 24 hours, while the death count increased by 857 to reach 39,795, figures from the Union Health Ministry showed. 12,82,215 people in the country have recovered from the highly contagious disease, taking the recovery rate to 67.19 per cent. India is the country with the third-highest coronavirus caseload in the world after the United States and Brazil. Maharashtra has reported the highest number of cases, followed by Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.

  1. Maharashtra has recorded 4,57,956 cases, including 16,142 deaths so far. 

  2. In Tamil Nadu, 5,063 people tested positive on Tuesday as the state's overall tally touched 2,68,285.

  3. Andhra Pradesh reported 9,747 coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, pushing the state's tally to 1,76,333.

  4. Delhi, which has reported 1,39,156 cases so far, has less than.10,000 active cases now. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal tweeted on Tuesday, "Active cases left in Delhi less than 10,000 today. Delhi is now at 14th position in terms of active cases. No of deaths have come down to 12 today. I am proud of you, Delhiites. Your "Delhi model" being discussed everywhere. But we shud not get complacent and take all precautions." 

  5. The coronavirus infection has spread to new areas in the country but 82 per cent of the total cases are still limited to 10 states and Union Territories, the government said on Tuesday, amid a surge in the virus caseload. 

  6. The Phase 1 human clinical trials of two COVID-19 vaccine candidates developed indigenously by Bharat Biotech in collaboration with ICMR and Zydus Cadila Ltd have been completed and the trials have moved to Phase 2, ICMR Director General Balram Bhargava said on Tuesday.

  7. Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan tweeted on Tuesday evening to say that he had tested positive for coronavirus and that he had admitted himself to hospital on the advice of his doctors. Mr Pradhan, who described himself as "healthy", has been admitted to the Medanta Hospital in Gurgaon near Delhi. He is the second central minister to be infected by the COVID-19 virus; on Sunday Home Minister Amit Shah tweeted that he had tested positive. Mr Shah is also undergoing treatment at Medanta Hospital.

  8. The Chief Scientist of WHO, Soumya Swaminathan said that India has a low testing rate when compared to some of the countries that are successfully trying to curb it. "India as a whole, the testing rates are much lower compared to some of the countries, who have done well like Germany, Taiwan, South Korea, Japan. Even the United States is testing a huge number of people. So we need to have some benchmark and every public health department needs to have benchmarks on what is the rate of testing per lakh or per million, what is the test positivity rate," she said.

  9. The coronavirus pandemic has killed over 7 lakh people globally since it emerged in China late last year. Over 1.85 crore people have been infected with the highly contagious virus.

  10. The US on Tuesday added 1,302 deaths from COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University. The US has now recorded 4,765,170 total cases with 156,668 deaths, making it by far the worst-hit country in the world.
