Classes for Grades 9 and 11 will resume from December 21 (Representational)
Chandigarh: Physical classes for senior schoolchildren in Haryana will resume from next week, the state government has informed. Students will have to produce negative Covid test report not older than 72 hours to attend school, it said in a statement.
"It has been decided that students of Classes 10 and 12 will be allowed to attend their government or private schools from December 14 for three hours daily -- between 10 AM to 1 PM," the Directorate School Education of the Haryana government said in a circular.
Classes for Grades 9 and 11 will resume from December 21, it added.
School and college students have been taking online classes as physical classes had been banned in March by the Central government to prevent the spread of the coronavirus among students. The Centre, a few weeks ago, allowed states to decide if they wanted to resume physical classes.
Many states, however, couldn't resume physical classes because of a sudden spike in Covid numbers during the recent festive season.
The Haryana government in the note said prior health check-up will be mandatory for students to attend their schools. Letters certifying that they don't have COVID-19 infection have to be produced before attending their classes.
Body temperature of those entering schools -- including staff and teachers -- will have to be checked daily and those running fever will be denied entry, the government said.
District administrations will ensure free medical check-up for students.
Haryana has so far reported over 2,48,000 coronavirus cases including 2,650 deaths.
